Delhi Kannada Senior Secondary School
About School
Founded on Vijay Dashami in October 1961 with just 10 students, one teacher-cum-Principal, and one clerk, Delhi Kannada Senior Secondary School (DKS) at Lodhi Estate, New Delhi, was established by the Delhi Kannada Education Society to provide general education to children from Karnataka and other communities residing in the NCT of Delhi. The founder president, S.V. Krishnamurthy Rao - a freedom fighter, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, and Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha - envisioned a school that would serve the Kannada-speaking diaspora of the capital without limiting its doors to any single community. Over six decades later, that founding intent remains intact at its address on Lodhi Estate, New Delhi — 110003.
The school is recognized by the Directorate of Education, Delhi, and is affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), following the 10+2 pattern across all classes. Pre-primary classes were formally added from the 2011-12 session, making DKS a continuous CBSE school in New Delhi from Nursery through Class 12. The school's philosophy draws from Swami Vivekananda's teachings in shaping students as complete individuals, and the institutional aim is to produce morally and ethically grounded citizens who excel across varied fields.
The campus is equipped with science laboratories, a drawing room, an indoor gaming room, a library, a playground, and clean drinking water facilities. The school's gallery documents a range of events - the Science Exhibition 2025, Ganesh Chaturthi, Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations, Sports Day, a Dental Health Check-up Camp, a Plantation Drive, and the Annual Day - reflecting an active co-curricular calendar that extends well beyond the classroom. A counselling service is available on campus from 10am to 2pm on working days.
Admissions to Class 1 typically open in January or February each year, subject to seat availability. The school office operates from 8am to 4pm, and the principal is available for parent meetings between 8am and 8:30am, as well as on the 1st, 3rd, and 4th Saturdays from 2pm to 3pm. Online fee payment is available through the school website at delhikannadaschool.com. For enquiries, parents can call 011-24611360 or write to dksdelhi@rediffmail.com.
