About St. Thomas’ Church School

Founded between 1860 and 1865 by Rev. Dr. William Spencer, Chaplain of St. Thomas’ Church, to provide education to Anglo-Indian children of Howrah, St. Thomas’ Church School has spent over 160 years growing into one of the largest and most historically significant schools in Howrah - a distinction openly stated on its own official website. Located at 3, Church Road, Howrah - PIN 711101 - the school is affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE), New Delhi under Affiliation No. WB-079, and operates as a Christian Minority Co-Educational English Medium School under Article 30 of the Indian Constitution, governed by the Diocese of Calcutta, Church of North India (CNI). The Chairman of the Board of Governors is His Grace, The Most Revd. Dr. Paritosh Canning - the Moderator of CNI and Bishop of Calcutta - whose institutional authority reflects the school’s deep and continuing connection to the Anglican church heritage in Bengal.

St. Thomas’ Church School has evolved significantly from its founding purpose - while it was originally established for Anglo-Indian children of Howrah, the school now admits children from all sections of society, irrespective of caste, creed, or religion. The school is currently led by Principal P.C. Daniels and Vice Principal Andrew Alexander Gupta, with a Junior Head overseeing the lower school section. The school runs a structured academic programme under the ICSE board across its Howrah campus and also operates a Chinsurah Branch - a second campus that has its own separate Notice Board, Event Calendar, and Admission process - with Online Fees Payment available for both campuses through dedicated portals.

The school campus at Church Road, Howrah covers almost 6 bighas 17 kathas of land - a substantial footprint in the heart of Howrah that accommodates spacious, airy buildings, playgrounds, and the full range of infrastructure for an ICSE Senior Secondary school. The Computer Laboratory is equipped with modern computers aimed at enabling students to build their own applications, the Physics Laboratory is described on the website as one of the most well-equipped among schools in Howrah and Kolkata, the Biology Laboratory offers modern amenities for practical learning, and a Library supports independent reading and research. The school also has Counsellors deputed from a dedicated Counselling Centre who attend to the needs of both students and parents - a formal wellbeing support system that is uncommon at this depth in most Howrah schools. A School Anthem, a published School Staff list, and an official Board Members page are all accessible on stcsh1860.org.

Admissions for the 2027-28 LN-II session are currently open (3rd Round), with the admission notice PDF published on stcsh1860.org. Online Fees Payment is available separately for the Howrah campus and the Chinsurah Branch through dedicated payment portals. Parents can contact the school at +91 33 2641 2138 / +91 33 2641 3590, on mobile at 9932341248 or 9831230823, or write to stcsh1860@gmail.com for admission enquiries.
