Nalanda Public School

Nalanda Public School in Hari Om Nagar, off the Eastern Express Highway in Mulund East, Mumbai, was founded on 7 June 2003 by Mr. Chaitanya N. Parekh under the Soham Foundation. The school grew out of the Foundation’s commitment to social work, and it was planned as a school with a difference. Its stated aim is a caring environment where skills and attitudes for lifelong learning are built, producing confident, positive and compassionate young people.

The school runs a Playgroup, an Infant Section, and Primary and Secondary sections. Each has its own gallery, and online registration forms are posted for the Playgroup and Infant Section. Students belong to one of four houses named Prithvi, Vayu, Agni and Jal, which publish their own house newspapers. A Student Council, a list of honours and an awards page are on the website, and the school’s mission includes helping every child judge their own performance honestly and work towards a goal.

What sets Nalanda apart is its programme of activities. The site lists Spicmacay, Self Defence, a Literary Club, Yoga and Urban Farming, a rare one for a city school, along with a Social Outreach Programme. The school says it won the Best School Award for Social Outreach in the Education Today Best Schools in Maharashtra Survey. As a CBSE school in Mulund East, it also competes in CBSE cluster events: in August 2026 its Under-14 boys’ Kho-Kho team were first runners-up at the CBSE Cluster IX Championship, and a student won the Under-14 girls’ individual table tennis title.
